Bees without borders Conference by Samuel Dépraz: the forest garden, a good for biodiversity and for pollinators

21. February 2023 @ 19:00 - 20:30 CET

Introduction
Our consumption patterns, and in particular food, have a huge energy and environmental footprint today. The resources expended from “field to plate” are considerable and are dependent on cheap fossil fuels and a healthy and stable environment.
It is time to find sustainable ways of growing crops that restore our environment, climate and biodiversity while ensuring our food resilience in a hyper-local way.
Forest gardens are cropping systems, inspired by tropical agroforestry systems, that allow for high crop production while regenerating soil and biodiversity. In this context, the role of pollinators, of which honeybees are a part, is crucial: they provide a vital function on which the majority of flowering plants depend: melliferous plants therefore have their rightful place in a forest garden, allowing for numerous beekeeping productions.
With their environmental as well as their social dimension, forest gardens are therefore real Swiss Army knives to face the challenges of our society.

The conference will be held in Frtench, recorded and made available on our YouTube channel.

Biography
Samuel is married and has a 6 year old daughter.
After training as a mechanical engineer and 15 years in project management, he turned to Forest Gardens after becoming deeply aware of environmental issues. Since 2020, he has been creating a Forest Garden on 5ha in Bresse and experimenting with various approaches to self-sufficiency: he plants and sows relentlessly, and manages a small amateur nursery and a mixed Dadan/Warré apiary. He was a member of the Forêt Gourmande team in France, with whom he trained and continues to train in different areas. He is an advisor and trainer, to accompany the projects of Forest Gardens managed by the Swiss Forest Garden Association with private individuals and communities.
